On May 21st 2025, 36 students from classes 6A and 6B set off for England, more specifically for the capital city London, not only to practise their English skills in the language school or with their host families but also to experience British culture. Many different sights in London were explored throughout the 8-day journey: Greenwich and the Meridian Line, the Cutty Sark and Greenwich Market, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, Buckingham Palace and the Mall, Whitehall, the Globe Theatre, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Borough Market, Covent Garden, Piccadilly Circus, the National Gallery and Oxford Street. For most students, it was their first time in such a metropolis like London. Moreover, they could enjoy two day trips to Cambridge and Eastbourne. Read about one of the student’s experiences:

  1. What were your first impressions when you arrived in England?

Melissa: We landed in the evening at around 5:30 pm, so it was already getting a bit late when we finally got outside. Still, my first impressions were very positive. Even though I was a bit tired from the journey, I noticed how clean and green everything looked. The people were friendly, and I was excited to finally be in England. Our host mother was very welcoming and made us feel at home right away. The host family included us in conversations and meals, and it was a great way to practise our English in a real-life setting. Greenwich was a very nice place to stay at.

  1. Did you enjoy the lessons in the language school?

Melissa: Yes, I really enjoyed the lessons. The teacher was very engaging and the classes were interactive. We played games, had discussions and improved our speaking skills a lot.

  1. What did you like about London?

Melissa: I definitely liked Big Ben. Seeing such a famous landmark was really impressive. I also enjoyed the tour at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. It was fascinating to learn about the history of the theatre in London. Another highlight was visiting Piccadilly Circus. I really enjoyed the lively atmosphere there, and we had a lot of fun shopping in the nearby stores.

  1. What was your impression of Cambridge and would you consider studying in a place like Cambridge one day?

Melissa: Cambridge was absolutely beautiful and full of history. The university buildings were impressive. I could imagine studying there, as the atmosphere felt very inspiring.

  1. Did you enjoy spending time in Eastbourne?

Melissa: Yes, I liked Eastbourne very much. It was really relaxing to spend time at the sea. The pier was nice and the view of the sea was beautiful. One of the best parts was the cliff walk. The views from the cliffs were stunning, and the fresh air made the walk even more enjoyable.

Whether it was unforgettable sightseeing moments, excursions outside of London or living with a host family, this trip created memories we will never forget.
